Alex Fisher, a junior at Loomis Chaffee from Berlin, was honored Thursday as Connecticut’s Gatorade Player of the Year for cross country.

Fisher finished second in the New England Prep School Athletic Council Div. I cross country championships in 15:19, behind Tam Gavenas of Massachusetts, who was the National Foot Locker champion. He finished 20th out of 199 runners in the national NXN final on Dec. 7 in 15:52 in Portland, Oregon in muddy conditions and was named a third-team All-American. He has been an All-NEPSAC runner the last three years. Fisher either won or finished second in every race in which he competed this season, until the NXN final.

Fisher was the Founders League champion this year and set a course record at Taft, running the 5,000-meter course in 15:55 and the team won the Founders League title.
