Week 2 of high school football is upon us and while some teams are coming off opening day losses and trying to reconfigure parts of their game to improve, others are hoping to build momentum after season-opening wins.

In an SCC interdivisional game, Fairfield Prep, ranked No. 5 in the Courant’s state coaches’ poll, will travel to No. 7 Hand, last year’s Class M champion, on Friday. Both teams are undefeated. Both Maloney and Glastonbury, who play Thursday, received votes in the first week of the poll. Hall, looking for its first win, will face Manchester in a CCC Tier I game.

Here’s a look at some upcoming top Week 2 football games:

Maloney (0-1) at Glastonbury (1-0), Thursday, 6:30 p.m.: Maloney is smarting after its third straight loss to New Canaan, 42-13, in the season opener last week (and also in the 2022 state championship and last year’s state semifinal) and will be fired up to face a CCC opponent in a Tier 1 contest. New Canaan was tied for first place in last week’s coaches’ poll. Maloney coach Kevin Frederick said he was unhappy with his team’s execution in the red zone and poor tackling and wanted to fix those issues before the next game. Glastonbury beat Platt 41-27 last week behind Dante Casdia’s 277-yard, two-touchdown performance.

Hall (0-1) at Manchester (1-0), Friday, 6 p.m.: Ridgefield spoiled Steve Markie’s debut as head coach at Hall, beating the Titans 11-6 last weekend in a CT High School Football Alliance game. Hall did rally late, as Ridgefield led 11-0 heading into the fourth quarter before Hall scored on a Jackson Bracken 3-yard TD run. The Titans had another chance to score late in the game but couldn’t capitalize. Manchester opened its season with a 28-22 CT HS Football Alliance win over Danbury last week. Manchester QB Emanuel Sampel threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a touchdown and Joe Mugovero had a touchdown and 102 receiving yards.

Xavier (0-1) at Sheehan (1-0), Friday, 6:30 p.m.: Last year, Xavier won a close one over Sheehan, 24-16 in this SCC Tier II game. Xavier lost its opener 22-21 to Bunnell last week so the Falcons, who returned 16 starters, are looking for their first win, while Sheehan beat Griswold 47-6.

Farmington (1-0) at Tolland (1-0), Friday, 6:30 p.m.: Tolland quarterback Ryan Caminiti threw for 230 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s 37-26 win over Plainville. Farmington won its first season opener in 11 years, shutting out E.O. Smith 16-0.

Fairfield Prep (1-0) at Hand (1-0), Friday, 7 p.m.: Fairfield Prep is ranked fifth in Week 1 of the coaches’ poll after a definitive 38-8 win over Southington and Hand, last year’s Class M champion, is in the No. 7 spot after a 36-14 victory over New London and looking to move up in the rankings.
