MERIDEN – John Manning scored three touchdowns as Windsor, ranked No. 2 in the Courant state coaches poll, defeated Maloney 40-14 Friday night at Falcon Field.

Maloney scored first but Windsor (5-0) quickly rallied and Manning scored the first touchdown on a 1-yard run with 4:59 left in the second quarter to tie the score at 7-7.

The score was tied at halftime but Windsor’s defense shut down Maloney (2-3) on the first series of the third quarter and Manning scored on an 11-yard run with 9:18 left in the quarter to give the Warriors a 14-7 lead. Quarterback AJ Robinson had a touchdown pass to Cashmire Lewis to give the Warriors a 21-7 lead toward the end of the third quarter.

Maloney cut the lead to 28-14 on a Ethan Nedinsky 24-yard touchdown pass to Messiah Abrahante with 7:47 left in the fourth quarter but Windsor controlled the ball after that and scored twice more.

“We made some adjustments at halftime and our kids played better,” Windsor coach Rob Fleeting said. “Things worked out for us.”

Greenwich, the No. 1 team in the state coaches poll, lost to Wilton Friday night 20-17, so there will likely be a new No. 1 Monday.
