BRISTOL – Junior Kelvin McKnight had an interception on the last play of the game Friday night to cap off a stellar fourth-quarter performance by Newington’s defense in a 14-7 win over previously unbeaten Bristol Central Friday night in a CCC Tier III game.
Newington (6-0) scored first on a 2-yard run by Evan Piggott less than a minute into the game and led 6-0. The Nor’easters’ defense gave up their first touchdown of the season in the first quarter, a 64-yard run by Malikia Holley, but then shut down Bristol Central the rest of the way.
Newington scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 31-yard pass from quarterback Enzo Corvino to Aiden Bengston with 5:05 left in the third quarter and the two-point conversion (pass from Corvino to Bengston) was good to give the Nor’easters a 14-7 lead.
Corvino had nine carries for 96 yards and completed 7 of 13 passes for 65 yards. Piggott had 24 carries for 106 yards for Newington.
